TAB CLASSES
The TAB program at Local 265 has been very popular since its inception back in the early seventies. Testing and balancing has become very important in the sheet metal industry, many buildings must be tested to find out what the Heating and air conditioning system is doing and if it is delivering the proper air and water quantities. The technician sets up the equipment and adjusts the systems to design specifications. The air course runs 32 sessions and is covering the airside of the HVAC system. The water course runs 18 sessions and is covering the water side of the HVAC system. The course will cover the instruments used and how to use them, and covers how to record the findings and develop a report. Math and the formulas for this kind of work also are a big part of the class.
The program is recognized and certified by the ILLINOIS-SMACNA, SMARTA Test And Balance program and will give the student a SMARTA airside certification if the student successfully passes the final exam.
To expand our testing and balancing program even further our TABB certified lab offers the opportunity for our certified SMARTA balancers to become a TABB Certified Technicians by taking and passing a written and hands on performance exam.
Dennis Moran is the instructor for the air program and Paul Monteith is teaching the water side both are full time staff apprentice program instructors and are SMARTA and TABB certified balancers.
There is a running list of names of people who are interested in taking the airside or waterside balance class, if you are interested please contact the education office.
