AutoCAD.

The Program

Local 265's computer program uses AutoDesk's AutoCAD program as a tool to learn computer basics, sheet metal layout, field measuring, print reading, and the creation of shop drawings.  Our facility offers two computer labs that support our 38 computer stations.  We are currently teaching AutoCAD 2010.  We are on a subscription program through Autodesk that allows us to stay up to date with the current software release.  Our class rooms are supported by ceiling mounted projectors, laser printers, a D-size plotter, internet accessibility, and a well trained staff.

Apprentice Program

The computer program started back in October of 2000.  We started with 16 computers running windows 98 and AutoCAD 98LT.We currently teach computers to 3rd and 4th year apprentices.  They will receive over 60 hours of hands-on training.  The course objective is to teach basic computer skills, AutoCAD's software package, sheet metal layout, field measuring, print reading, and introduce the process of creating shop drawings.

Journeyman Training

Our AutoCAD night program is currently separated into four separate courses, Basic, Advanced, CCS Draft, and CCS Fab.

Basic AutoCAD

This course is designed for an entry level student.  Basic computer knowledge is helpful but not required.  You will learn file management, windows interface, and the fundamentals of AutoCAD.  The course will be very challenging and rewarding.  The class meets once a week for 16 weeks.  There are homework assignments, class assignments, and a final project to complete the course.  We use the Detailing Textbook provided by the ITI.

Advanced AutoCAD

This course is designed for more advanced users.  Passing the Basic AutoCAD final or instructors consent is required.  The focus of the course will be detailing in a 2 dimensional environment.  Time will be spent learning advance commands, scale dependency, plotting in model and paper space, shop drawing requirements, and print reading.  The class meets once a week for 16 weeks.  There are homework assignments, in class assignments and a final project to complete the course.  We use the Detailing Textbook provided by the ITI.

CCS Draft

This course is designed for advanced users looking to become certified detailers using the Construction Coordination Software,

(CCS).  Passing Advanced AutoCAD final or instructors consent is required.  The focus of the course will be detailing in a 3 dimensional environment using the CCS add on software package.  Time will be spent learning advanced 3 dimensional commands, job documentation, manufacturer submittals, print reading, and field measurement scenarios.  The class meets once a week for 10 weeks.  There are homework assignments, in class assignments and a CCS Draft Certification test to complete the course.

CCS FAB

This course is designed for the experienced detailer wanting to become certified in the fabrication portion of the CCS software.  Passing advanced AutoCAD's final or instructors consent is required.  The focus will be on the preparation to pass the certification test.  The class will cover the components of the software that will enable a detailer to produce machine code and fitting labels directly with the downloading and fabrication of HVAC components using CNC machines.

Instructors

David St. Peter is program coordinator, apprentice program instructor and night program instructor.

Chris Hansen is the night program instructor.
